What does attach mean in the Student References page of the application

I'm trying to apply for a graduate degree.On the Student References page, I'm seeing a table that contains all the information I submitted for my references. However, the last column is called "Attach" that has a ticked check box and I'm not sure what does this field mean!

Some applicants are given a reference from their referee as a pdf, so you can attach the reference directly to your application. Otherwise, the referee is contacted by the university and they are provided with the reference directly.
