Hi!

I stayed in partnership city accommodation called "Sheffield 3" in my first year. I loved how close it was to campus (only about 10 minutes walk from the student union) compared to the university's student villages (Endcliffe and Ranmoor), which were about 20-30 minutes walk away. Sheffield 3 had a common room where lots of fun events were held (e.g. movie nights, society taster sessions, meet and greets) which were great for socializing. There was also a large Tesco supermarket just next door, where I could find pretty much anything I needed! I definitely think that the student villages are the best places to meet people from first year at The University of Sheffield. I found that in Sheffield 3, there were a lot of students from Hallam, as well as students from other year groups (2nd year, 3rd year, Masters students etc.).

Hey!

I stayed in Ranmoor accommodation so can give you my perspective on this to compare. Ranmoor is situated in a really nice green area which I personally enjoyed as it made walks to uni and the shops more enjoyable. Ranmoor is super close to Endcliffe and these two are what most people would say are the 'main' student village. Both Ranmoor and Endcliffe are further away from the University buildings (20-30 mins) but I personally found the walk on a morning quite nice and doesn't feel that long as its usually just straight down the hill. City accommodation such as Allen court is much closer to most buildings so if you want to be closer city is the best choice. Although Ranmoor and Endcliffe are where the bulk of students are so it is often a much more social area to stay in and you will probably find you make some friends that live there and its quite a walk from city to Ranmoor/Endcliffe ( 40 mins). Ranmoor also has a free gym for residents in Ranmoor and Endcliffe which is really handy. City Accommodation is more modern and has a TV in the common area of most apartments and also the beds are 3/4 rather than a single. I personally found Ranmoor quieter and more relaxed than Endcliffe this is why I chose it as I got the balance of social life but had quiet time for work and sleep. What are your main priorities for choosing accommodation? Feel free to let me know and I will try give some more advice based on these!

Hey does anyone know about the colour of the rooms in Lawrencefield? I am in Flat B1 and I have heard its red/blue/green/yellow for student accommodation at Endcliffe but wondered if anyone knew what B1 Lawrencefield is, thank you!

Hi, were there any lives in Ranmoor or Endcliff. I don’t want to be carrying all my stuff while walking up the stairs. I’m staying in Rivelin F6 and I think the wall is either blue or red, i’m not sure.

Hey everyone. I have an offer for Allen Court (brightmore house), but i really don't know whether it is right for me. I was really keen on ranmoor/encliffe as i appreciate the quiet and green areas. Hi ,

Can I ask which accommodation you have applied to? From my experience I found out as soon as I had reserved my accommodation in April. I do believe due to Covid the accommodation office are working slightly different for this year due to offering international students free accommodation for 3 weeks to quarantine this may have caused some disruption. They should be in contact soon to confirm with you, if you don't hear anything and it's getting close to move in I would recommend contacting them, there contact info is here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation. Hey! I'm not sure what you read about Allen Court online but I've had a very good experience living in Allen Court. I lived there in my first year in E Block (Latimore House) and I've met some amazing people over there! If you're concerned about it being noisy, then don't worry because even though it's close to the city, it's not located on any of the main roads so you won't be hearing any of the car/bus and other noises. I'm not sure if it has been renovated after I left so you can try contacting the accommodation team about it directly if you want to at: [email protected].

Allen Court common room has a pool table, foosball, table tennis, gaming room and my personal favourite, a movie room! I used to go there with my flatmates or friends just to chill and watch movies on a big screen so overall, it's quite a social place too. Our kitchens were really big with sufficient shelves for everyone and two big fridges (including freezers) for a flat of 6 people. We had a kettle, toaster, microwave, iron and ironing board etc all included in our kitchen and had a good dining and living space too.

I personally loved living in Allen Court mainly because of its proximity to University (cause I'm lazy!!) but also because of the experiences I've had there.

My daughter is an overseas student and is already in the UK to quarantine before starting her course. I am trying to purchase everything she needs online and send it to her as she can’t go out.
I was wondering if someone could tell me the color scheme of her room so I can buy the bedding. She will be in Kinder F.

Hi there,

Some aspects of cancer biology are touched upon in the biology course. However, despite doing "Biology" which falls under the Animal and Plant Sciences department you will be able to take modules from the Biomedical Science department which will be more targeted to your interests in cancer biology.

I absolutely love my course. Biology allows you to expand the way that you understand the concept of life and it allows you to draw links between things you see in the real world on a very applicable basis: for example, considering the specific adaptations between dogs and cats or how each of the species evolved under different selection pressures. I am enrolled on the Biology with a Year Abroad course which allowed me to spend the past year studying biology in New Zealand, which has also provided me with international experience.

I'm really passionate about my course so be sure to let me know if you have any further questions about studying biology at Sheffield!

I'm gonna stay at city accommodation, and I wonder whether they give us duvet and pillowcase kind of stuff or not. If it's not I wanna bring one of mine from my home country. ( I don't think I can buy it when I arrive in Sheffield, cause it's quite long journey)
