what's student life like there? It's so big so i was curious about like how people make friends there/ what the societies are like?

How many clubs are there? And yeah it is.

Hey all! I'm a current UCL student, and I've realised coronavirus has really limited the amount of information available to potential applicants. I have decided to answer some questions so....fire away!

Do keep in mind, as I am not apart of administration so I won't be able to give specific advice. Just more general advice/information about student life.

Hi I have some questions so I apologise in advance :P
1) Does UCL have a campus or at least a campus feel? Like do you see other students when you're walking around or does it feel lonely when you're not in scheduled lectures
2) How expensive is it really, like do you feel like you're having to excessively budget? And in terms of transport how do you get around, is the tube and buses too expensive?
3) How diverse is the community? Would you say there's an even mix of home and international students, and students from different areas of the UK, and do people mix together well? (the only reason I ask is because I was talking to an ex-student and she said sometimes it felt a bit cliquey, especially with kids from the same areas of the UK? She did graduate about 5 years ago though lol)
4) Are there plenty of study spaces, and are they nice places to work in?
5) Finally, if you are in second year or above how was finding a student house? Is it super expensive, or really tiny compared to other student houses in the rest of the UK?

How long do UCL tend to take to reply to applicants? I haven’t heard of anyone receiving offers yet

Not part of administration so I cant say! Mine took 2 weeks, but I doubt that's any consolation if you're still waiting on yours.

Okay thank you. I applied mid November but I’m really impatient so I’ve been waiting for a response everyday 😂

1) Yes, unlike other unis UCL has all its faculties at the same campus.
2) Quite expensive, but you've just got to play it right. Tube and buses can be spenny but a student oyster will get you 1/3 off!
3) Very diverse. International students make up 53% of students so slightly more. It is cliquey I have to admit. I'm from North-west London and sometimes it feels like we have a gang. Not all people will be cliquey like though. Just got to find the diamonds in the rough.
4) Yes! We have so many libraries - but because of social distancing booking spaces have been tricky for the time being.
5) It's not that difficult. London has so many uni's that its virtually impossible to not find someone to rent from.

Ohh okay, thank you for your reply! Sorry to be a pain, but how did you find it making friends? I'll be applying from the midlands so I don't know anyone from round London, are the majority of UK applicants from London or nearby (like Surrey or something?)

I do find that a lot of UCL people are from London, and funnily from my specific area but this is purely because of the groups I tend to hang out with. There are so so so many people from the midlands so you need not worry and I have plenty of friends from there! I think people mix well at UCL, I have friends from London, but also other parts of the UK and even international. It's nice seeing people from various backgrounds blend together.
