Do we need to be vaccinated before going to uni?

I don’t live the UK and I’m not sure I’ll be vaccinated in time
No, unless you’re doing a healthcare course.
The MenACWY vaccine is offered to those starting university, but it’s optional.

The covid vaccine isn’t currently a requirement but you may be offered is when you arrive in the UK (our vaccine program is scheduled to be vaccinating 18-20 year olds in September)

worth pointing out if what Boris says is true that will be a second vaccine but we shall see I suspect you'll need a clear test 2 weeks before coming and another a week after getting here before your allowed in for lectures even if you've been vaccinated.
