What's your favourite classic car and why?

Just a little thread for anyone interested in classic cars. My personal favourite has got to be the '68 Mustang GT fastback, but what's yours and why?

And why do you like it? In that era of Mustangs, I personally prefer the fastback of 65 unless it is a Shelby

I have quite a few favourites.

Series 1 Morris Minor Convertible. Prefer the pre-50s model simply because it was my first car when I was a 17 year old.. LOL Someday I hope to find one just like it, but at this moment in time I have no time for it.

Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II, never really known why, but the inspiration of it comes from the music video Uptown Girl by Billy Joel

But the ultimate favourite :-

Series 1 Jaguar E-Type Roadster, have always liked the shape and look of it. Somewhat well engineered considering it's age.
Just classic cars or vintage cars too?
The 1970 Chaparral 2J. :coma:

If I could have anything it'd be a BRM V16

If we're talking mustangs it'd be a '66 Coupe with the GT and rally pack. Automatic in a dark colour with a red "pony" interior.
I don't like fastbacks. The first Gen mustangs aren't even propper fastbacks - they are just coupes with a different roof design after all!

I have an Austin A35 at home. It's beautiful! Needs quite a bit of work doing to it as it's gotta rust and stuff over the years.

My boyfriend is on the auto design course at Coventry and he has a Lomax kit car:

You mean you had air-cooled.

Water-cooled are the modern Porsche,

Older are air/oil-cooled and the best, they aren't about speed, they are about the handling and the general feel of connection between you and the engine when you drive it.

I did mean aircooled, but I have had a watercooled car as well.
I had an '81 SC Coupe last year and more recently I've had a 996.

The SC was horrible. It was actually a nice example as far as impact bumper cars go, but I didn't like it at all. The engine sounds like a hairdryer. For circa 10 grand there's a lot better cars out there to choose from.

I won't spoil it for you, though. Give one a go for yourself if you've not bought one already. I used Adrian flux for the insurance on the SC. IIRC it was something like £600 fully comp / agreed value / limited miles.

The 996 I had was a much better car. Actually the only example where I prefer a newer model over a classic. But even then, you see so many of them on the road they aren't exactly "special". The only way to stand oout in the crowd with a modern 911 is to have a GT3 kit and that's hardly pretty!

VW Beetle (especially 67 1500, with one year only extras)

Porsche 356

VW Type 3 "fastback"

Theres loads more its hard to choose.

Oh I forgot to say why. Ive always had an obsession with VW's and anything aircooled since I was a kid as my dad used to work with them and always had them, so it was basicly passed on to me. I also have a 67 1300 beetle.

Aston Martin DB5 because it's just so damn sexy...

Phwoarrrrr...

The E-type Jag also has a special place in my heart and the Delorean DMC-12 would have to be my guilty pleasure :colondollar:
There is so many great classics out there, I am a huge fan of the 60's Mini Cooper S racers like John 'smoky' Rhodes Mini and Warrick Banks in a Downton tuned Mini Cooper . So mine will have to be a classic Mini because they are massively fun on the country roads, great design that everyone can enjoy, small, nippy and can be modified in all sorts of way, shell and engine including interior. My Mini isn't ready yet but it will be top notch. I love all types of classics mind but I have liked Mini's all my life.

......i probably would not fit into the latter two due to my height though. O.O

You're the only guy I know that hates the air-cooled.

I wouldn't buy air-cooled myself since I'll go bankrupt very fast thanks to its expensive maintenance.

I might buy a boxster spyder in the future if I plan into porsche.

Naw, a 911 is cheaper for parts than a 944. There's plenty of specialists for the older stuff. You won't run one on the same budget as you would an austin mini, but they aren't too bad for parts. Even if you have to go to the main dealer, they knock off an awful lot for older cars and you'll also get 10% off if you're a member of the owners club.

If you think an aircooled is expensive, forget buying new stuff. Certainly wouldn't bother with a boxster. Rear main seal gone? That'll be dear to fix...
Boxsters regularly blow up. The whole german reliability thing is a myth.
