Some of those sources definitions of left and right wing are a bit dubious, like apparently racism is proof of being right wing according to that first Daily Mail article, which is complete and utter *******s.

Neg me for arrogance but I find most conventionally 'right wing' thinkers are so worryingly ignorant of the bigger picture that I've now finally accepted that the world will never change because there is just too much of a lack in intelligence from society on the whole.
Also it bugs me when people say 'left wing ideology is clearly wrong, look at Communist Russia' etc etc. No no, don't look at Communist Russia, look at capitalist America and look at how well they indoctrinated their people. Remember the Cold War was a power struggle like any other. No guns were fired, so how did the West win? By very nifty propaganda. The only reason Communism doesn't work is because Communist countries are forced to exist in a capitalist world. Communism doesn't work because the global populace is too daft to understand the core principle.
Now get onto Google, type 'RSA Animate Illusion of Choice', and watch. Then continue with your oh-so free lives in this great world we have.

Negged for the truth. It's totally politically correct nonsense to say that IQ isn't indicative of intellect. It clearly is. If you look at virtually all the highest achievers in the toughest academic disciplines their IQ will be extremely high. Of course the correlation won't be perfect as there are many other determining variables such as work ethic.

I think there is research out there that shows that IQ is simply a foundation for success ie. you need a high IQ to successful in your field but having a high IQ doesn't guarantee success. Also IQ seems to be about thresholds, as you pointed out most Nobel Prize winners have IQs greater than 130 but above and beyond that "extra" IQ is not as important a factor, as Emotional Intelligence, Inter-personal skills and also extrinsic factors like, socio-economic background, how well connected you are etc.
As for the thread topic, being a moderate leftist myself I'd like to believe this is true but it seems somewhat flawed. It doesn't surprise me that more intelligent people are less racist, less homophobic and less authoritarian however.

I doubt its a consistent correlation. I would say your average modern socialist is more intelligent than your average communist extremist. These tend to be as narrow minded as their ideological opponents.

One of the journals these stories are based on does define right wing for their purposes, as essentially wanting to maintain the status quo and willing to use force to ensure that happens. Terrible definition given that “right wing” then changes depending on social norms at any time – the UK data’s from 1970, strong unions and nationalised industry! Definitely doesn't match free marketeers, right wing as used in the UK. Polar opposite of libertarians, aren't they right wing?

If you read the links, IQ seems to correlate with social liberalism and support of Capitalism i.e. Libertarian thinking which is exactly the sort of thing the top "1% plutocratic leechers" support, because it's what's best for them. I'm actually very skeptical of this conclusions of this study, but your post was pretty failtastic. Not least because of this:

Having gone through a few of the articles they are mostly about social conservatism rather than any economic issues. To the extent that they are about economics, it's not even clear what people who identify as "very liberal" even actually believe when it comes to economics. I consider myself a radical liberal and I'm about as free market as they come. However, I don't think social conservatives should find this troubling unless they really are stupid. It's just a massive appeal to authority and tells us basically nothing about who is right and who is wrong.

Your name shows that lefties are not very intelligent. You are proud of a concept called Tolerance which means you have to "tolerate" something. If someone has to "tolerate" something it means that its something they do not really want. Leftists can write all work they want to justify their "causes" but they have massive gaps like this. Who wants to be forced to tolerate anything?
You remind me of one of those people who point out charts where black people score lower on IQ than white people, as if it means anything.
Now I am pretty left wing in most respects myself (I believe in social justice, state schools, the NHS and the like), but it's pathetic to try to justify your political beliefs based on IQ trends. IQ isn't a very concise measure of anybody's intelligence, and besides, intelligent people can, and do, believe in bull****.

This will probably be negged to death and I'm just a kid without much understanding but from first hand experience, all the left winged people I have known at school. Well the ones who complain about Conservatives taking their benefits, these are usually the lowest achievers and generally quite chavy. Whereas the few who have openly admitted to siding with the Conservative party have been amongst the brightest in the school.
