'Bound' to a job? Contracts

Hello,

I'm planning on attaining a graduate job, but staying for only ~1 year since I have another prospect lined up then.

My question is do employers make you sign a contract along the line of 'I cannot leave this job until a certain amount of time has passed' because of the cost of training you, for you to just bugger off.

I understand your 'bound' to careers in the armed forces, but is there an equivalent of civilian jobs?

Cheers
It's something you need to establish when you get your contract through, read it very carefully. Some employers will expect a minimum return on their investment and as such tie you into a formal 'training contract' - this can mean that if you leave early you may have to pay back a certain sum in training fees. That said, I'm not sure how regularly the terms of such contracts are actually enforced.
