The Student Room Group

National Insurance Number

I've already been approved for my tuition loan and my maintenance loan, but the thing is, I don't have a National Insurance Number. In my application, I've given Student Finance England my dad's NIN as I'm applying through his income anyway as a dependent, so to say. I should get a response within a week after SFE contact the Department for Work and Pensions about the NIN thing. I'm worried if they might tell me they won't give me my loan because I've given them my dad's NIN. Is that going to be a problem? I've received my declaration already, I signed it and returned it yesterday.

Hi

Normally what will happen is that they will identify that the NI number provided is your fathers and that you have not been issued with an NI number, therefore the department for work and pensions will then generate an NI number for you.
Once this has been updated on your account we can approve your application.

Thanks
