is Surrey as good as they say?

I'm planning on going to Study automotive engineering at Surrey, I've visited and everything but i want to know if it really is as good as the league tables and surveys suggest? being a Scottish student its a big commitment to move south and pay fee's when i have offers from Scottish uni's

Which scottish uni's do you have offers from? If they are good I don't think it's worth moving for. Surrey is a good university, but it's boring and expensive living there.

Would you mind elaborating on this? I have an offer from Surrey and they are pretty much guaranteed to be my insurance, potentially my firm.

I have offers from Herriot watt which is really good for engineering, but it doesn't do the exact course I want and has no industry links with automotive manufacturers like surrey....

I've heard Guildford is quite an expensive town, but other than that - no.

As a Guildfordian myself, I'd like to say that the nightlife isn't bad. Casino is the mecca of many a great chap on a monday night out-on-the-lash. Decent number of other nightclubs and restaurants, and nice high street. Not sure how you can call Guildford expensive, but I suppose being from Surrey (the county) I can't real tell the difference.
