Do medical conditions affect university offers

I recently had a brain tumour and will not fully recover for another year or so. However, I don't want to fall too far behind (should be U6) and want to go to university next year. I was wondering if anyone knew if universities altered their offers for people currently suffering from medical conditions. When applying through UCAS both my school and hospital where the operation took place will send notes/references regarding my condition. As said, I may not get back to my previous academic level for a few years and was wondering if potential universities will take this in mind and lower their entry requirements as long as the above can be proven and I can show that in the future I can match the high standards that they expect once fully recovered.
As long as you state your condition in your application or afterwards, they should be lenient about you being there - but I doubt they will lower entry requirements for you substantially (although they may slightly reduce them).
