Healthcare Course with Placements - Mature Student

I am considering doing a Healthcare degree (Audiology) which has a fair proportion of placements. I am a mature student with family commitments. The courses I am looking at have lectures only 3 days a week but are too far for me to be able to commute to each day. There must be other students in the same situation and I'd be very interested to know what you do in terms of accommodation. I am thinking of trying to find some accommodation for 3 days a week, but I hope to be able to find placements near home where I can travel to each day from home.

Is this madness or manageable? Because I already have another degree, I am not eligible for a student loan, so will be funding the course and my living expenses myself.
