Why do women tend to sing hymns in a classical voice ?

This one puzzles me, I attend church most Sunday's and I have observed that most women seem to sing the hymns in a classical sort of voice, I mean it could be for many reasons but why do women do it?

as long as they are wearing hats it does not matter.
But do their wear boxers or briefs?
My gran used to do this, I can't for the life of me understand why.
I guess it's better than my baritone singing voice. :s-smilie:

There's always one with really over the top vibrato, isn't there?

Because this form of singing is a communal, choir like activity. I suspect if you went to a more evangelical church, you would find a more relaxed 'voice' but it would still be one with a common theme. CofE church singing, often dominated by the over 60s, still has an RP style or classical voice and to do otherwise would sound discordant in an activity that is supposed to be of one accord - I guess!
