You can say the same about Chav culture (okay I know I'm dated here but hear me out) - they would wear burberry and flaunt gold and wear brands in order to project an image of wealth. It's nothing specific to pakistanis - I find that equally amusing and disconcerting that you've made that generalisation, when there will always be people of every colour trying to show off, and plenty of people just getting on with their lives.
