Self catered halls

Hi was just wondering if the meals served at the halls are any good, ( like nutritionally for someone trying to stay fit) . also what are the lunch options around campus like.

thanks

Hey !

I just finished my first year at Notts and was in catered halls and it has exceeded my expectations
Breakfast is really good
Lunch is excelent. You get £27 to spend each week in the campus outlets and you can spend that on anything such as sandwiches, Paninis, jacket potatoes, chicken burgers, lasagne, fish and chips, Chinese, chicken and potato wedges, various other pasta dishes, pizza, garlic bread, smoothies, Starbucks ( there's one on campus )

Oh and also you can spend the money in Spar on any food/ drink

Dinner is the worst meal of the day like there's about 4 options and it's ever really amazing but the dessert is good and there's always the option of an omelette/ jacket potato and there's a salad bar and also soup too and fresh fruit so you won't go hungry

Catered is extremely social. You will have meal times with everyone in the massive dining hall and you'll get to speak with people from all over your hall, meaning you'll make friends with a lot of people as opposed to just like the 10 others in your block.

Definitely go and pick catered cause then you can get to all your lectures without having to rely on the hopper bus and you have more opportunities for socialising also and being on campus is just nice anyways cause the downs are so picturesque and you'll be right near everything like the sports centre and also the libraries

Everyone I know whose stayed in catered is so glad they did honestly

If nutrition is your #1 priority then going self-catered is probably the best way to go. That way you will know exactly what goes into your food.

@fefssdf is right though - If you want to live on the university site/don't want to rely on the hopper bus etc. then pick catered.

Personally, I went for self-catered at Nottingham Two (starting this year) as I don't really want to be at the heart of student life, and also Nottingham Two is only a 10 minute walk to Jubilee Campus and a 6 minute bus ride to the town centre.

just a warning that nottingham two attracts mostly international students and students from other universities, not just uni of so just something to be aware of cause personality I haven't met any freshers who lived at this accommodation
