Is it too late to apply for a job at a supermarket ie Tesco or Waitrose, I've just realised how boring my summer may be?

Nah not too late; fill in an application form and if they need people theyll be in touch soon.

P.S. Waitrose is much better than Tesco to work for. Eventhough tesco pay higher, weve had a couple of people starting at waitrose who used to work for tesco but didnt like it. Waitrose is really friendly and the managers are kind

I just went and asked if they had any jobs and they said 'no, try again later' pretty much. Am I meant to ask for an application form or do they only give one when there are jobs available? I'm new to this jobs business:redface:

Yea ask for a form; they usually say you can send them your application form and if they dont have current vacancies they will keep it in their files so that if a vacancy arises which matches your suitability; they will get in touch. Thats what happend with me anyway.

If you don't mind living away from home gumtree.com is great, check the lancashire, manchester (for Cumbria) and all the Scotland versions and there are plenty of bar and hotel jobs, especially for the summer. Done it three years in a row, 2 summers in the highlands and one now in the Lake district.

I've got a job in my uni city right now, but at the beginning of July I'm going home. After 2 weeks at home I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks.

Can a temping agency find you work for a week or two only? After the holiday I'll have 2-3 months of straight working time. I just need something for the interim.

How you meant to get to the event ones? Do they pay for your accomodation it doesn't say.

This one for example doesn't say.

Michael Wisher & Associates specialise in providing hospitality bar and waiting personnel to major sporting and corporate events across the country. We have seven successful offices across the UK based in London, Reading, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh & Glasgow. We are currently looking for people to work over the exceptionally busy summer period at some of the UK's most prestigious sporting events. The work we have coming up includes The Chelsea Flower Show

they are normally day events. i know people who've worked for michael wisher and they provide transportation to and from the event. if it's an overnight situation, they'll let you know or only employ people from closer to the region.you have to ask or if you're offered, they'll explain.

When finding out if a place has any vacancies, is it better to ring them or go in person? I'm saying this as I hate talking on the phone .

Thanks - I'm going in .

Another question: I've got a holiday booked for the 18th of August for a few days, do I tell them at the interview or wait to see if I get offered a job?
Reply 97
if you tell them before they could not employ you, and if you tell them after, they could get very upset with you but probably best to tell them after.

i have got this feeling inside me that i will NEVER find a job during this summer! I gave my CV everywhere and NOTHING! I dont know what to do! Im broke! I never worked before so its more difficult to be accepted in places. I feel like crying. ARGH!

Potentially stupid question: I'm 16 and I've just done my GCSEs this summer and I want a job, not really for work experience, just for some money. Would I be able to get a job at a supermarket or something similar? If so, is it just a simple case of asking/filling in a form? Or do I need to submit a CV and have an interview etc.

I haven't got a CV, since I don't feel like I have any qualifications. I've got one GCSE in Chinese which I took a few years ago, but obviously I will have to wait a month before I get real GCSEs.
