Well, there are places where whenever they hire in the UK they solely hire from Oxbridge. But that isn’t a official requirement. These places are usually Trading Firms. There are only a few of these ‘elite’ places. Also this only right after graduation or for internships, after you get some work experience everything opens up completely.

Can you clarify if you or your referee have already notified your college about your circumstances?

If you have then they will certainly take them into account. You should only need to contact them again if their decision is still pending tomorrow morning.

but if necessary, yes, you can tell clearing universities about the circumstances too.

100% agree! Then there's everyone else giving you that patronising reassurance that going to a different university won't be terrible and the ocassional 'friend' you met (who gets in) saying that they'll come and visit and invite you to Cambridge.
