Revision straight from the book

Because I am so close to my a level in history (AQA) I believe one of my only options to learn the content is to learn straight from the book ie. making small mind-maps or flashcards of information directly in the book instead of taking parts of the book and rewriting it into my own notes. I am not sure if this is a great idea but I think it is defiantly more efficient than the typical method of writing notes and learning them ( I have however done this for the majority of my course ).
Any recommendations / advice would be appreciated!!!
