Hi, I have applied for Diagnostic Radiography at BCU. =] For this year as well...

I am doing it through UCAS Extra as I applied for nursing because I didn't think I'd get the grades for Radiography, but got my A level results in January and whooped them. =] So am taking a big risk really, but I called the admissions tutor and she said I could apply.

I sooo want to go there!

Did you have an interview or just got an offer?
Reply 3
hiya, Well basically i had this offer last year for 2007, but i was in hospital at the start of the year (september) so i would have missed the first months of the course, so i decided to hold my place untill 2008 entry.

No i didnt have an interview, i just the place as i got C C C in my alevels. But i dont think they do interviews for this course anyway. (- pheewww)

Well if u did well in ur jan exams Im sure u will fine!!!!

Im scared though as i dont know what to expect!!!

Me either, when I phoned them they said I might have to go for an interview.. oh well. I am only doing 2 A levels and 2 AS levels.. =/ Hopefully I will get a B and C at A level and then make the rest of the points up with my AS's. Do you have your accomodation sorted?

I'm starting in September and also commuting! Only live in Dudley.

Is anyone else slightly annoyed that we've had to pay £36 to have a CRB check that, for me anyway, came back with no offences on it?!
And, my doctors said there may be a charge for the occupational health report! but i think we can claim that back! annoyed.big.time.

Doing biology exam today so in the process of a levels and keeping fingers crossed for the grades!

I dropped out lol. Dont get me wrong, the course itself is fantastic, the tutors are very supportive and approachable and the facilities for training are top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed my time (5 months!) at the university which is why i've reapplied to do a different course at BCU starting this september.

The problem for me was that the actual job itself just didnt meet my expectations. I wasnt enjoying placements at all and I just came to the realisation one day at work that even though I loved studying the material and all the academic side of things, working as a radiographer just wasnt appealing to me as much as i thought it would. One of my main reasons for doing the course in the first place was that ive spent a lot of time in hospital in the past and I thought that out of all the career options there radiography was the best one and i still think it is but a career in healthcare just isnt for me anymore.

On a sidenote, about 100 people start the diagnostic course with me and after those 5 months I was there about 60 people had dropped out. Obviously not all for the same reasons as me, some of them just couldnt handle the volume of academic work and probably the lack of holidays. You only get 2 weeks off for christmas, 2 weeks easter and 4 weeks spread out over the summer during the 13 week summer work placement.

Hi, anyone doing therapeutic radiography at BCU?? I'll be hopefully starting this September!

Heya! Im doing Diagnostic Radiography an BCU, starting sept. I think Diagnostic n Therapeutic have a lot of the same modules in yr1. I got an unconditional offer, are you awaiting results? xx
my friend has just graduated from the diagnostic radiography course at BCU, in the first year there was over 100 students but by the third year there was only 40 of them left. She says its a tough course!

In the first year Diagnostics and Theraputics share the following modules: Anatomy and Physiology, Radiation Physics, Psychology and Sociology, and Clinical Skills. Then each group has their specialist module, Diagnostics have a module in Radiographic Positioning and Theraputics have a module in Oncology which also involves positioning patients and working out correct doses etc.

I recommend you buy the current edition of Bones and Joints- great book that will help get you through the year.

Brill, reading all the comments. I think you all really need to look into what the course and the job are like. As i can tell you it is really a hard course and since i did year one it has got a lot harder. As for books well, i wouldn't really suggest that you buy any book as of yet. wait to see what book the lecturers put on the reading lists but if i was pushed to suggest some books then
Bones & Joints is a fantastic book for your basic osteology. i would also highly recommend is Accident & Emergency Radiology

Anyway god look to your all with getting your grades and i'll probably meet some of you should you come to clinical placement.

Once again if any of you need any advise just ask!

Hey, I've just finished year one of the course. Thought I'd offer some good news, the 36 quid you payed for CRB, hold on to the recipt, you'll get the money back from the uni on enrolment when you show all your certificates and stuff when you show them your CRB recipt. least thats what happened last year. can't remember if they payed back the money for the hep b jabs but if ya have anything to prove you have payed for them, they may refund that money to you as well.

If anyone has any questions or the like about the course and such feel free to either post or PM and ill try to be of help :p:.

Going on how i felt last year i found the 1st month to be quiet intense, as there was alot of things to get sorted out such as moving to accomadation, enroling, sorting out your placement site etc plus just getting used to finding my way arround the uni. again any questions and ill try and help out.
