Yes as long as you havent used any other HE funding.
You get degree length +1 gift year, so in this case you use the gift to fund the HNC.

Cant say I'm a fan though and would be with parents on work experience and £££ as being more valuable.
Also having your gift year to fall back on isnt a bad idea..
