A Level Biology

Does anyone know why a plant would chose a low moisture, low nutrient environment? I understand there is less competition, but there's also less resources?

maybe that species of plant thrives more in those sorts of conditions? e.g. cacti survive better in places such as deserts since they are adapted to do so with storing large masses of water etchowever, other plants such as swamp sunflowers thrive better in more wetter conditionsperhaps, they do not need much moisture or nutrients to have a long lasting lifeline? (not entirely sure but they could be some ideas)
