Physics Teacher Training Bursary

Hi,

I have recently been accepted onto a School Centred Initial Teacher Training course to teach Physics. I am now currently applying for funding for the course and have been made aware that I am eligible for a £26'000 tax-free bursary, as well as the Student Finance tuition fee and maintenance loan.

Can someone who has experience in this confirm that this is the case? After being accustomed to struggling as a student, it almost seems too good to be true.

Also, is the 26k bursary means tested, as I live with my partner who earns ~£20k p/a.

Thanks.
Bursary is not means-tested.

Yes, you can have the bursary, alongside the maintenance loan and tuition fees.

Your university will apply for the bursary for you when you start the course. It is essentially a free gift.
If you already have £30k+ student loan debt, you may as well take the maintenance loan and tuition fee loan on top of your bursary. As the likelihood of you ever repaying your loans, is tiny. Around 84% students never repay in full. Interest on student debt is around 6.3% a year, currently.
