What do native British people think about Cranfield University?

Hi guys I'm planning to apply a program at Cranfield University and I just wonder how do UK residents think about Cranfield University. Is it good at engineering? How is it if compare it to those top 100 universities in qs ranking, like Imperial College London, The University of Manchester, The University of Glasgow, The University of Nottingham?Would you like to go to Cranfield University if you get an offer?
Never heard of it.

The vast majority have no idea it exists. Which says nothing about its ability to provide a good engineering education.

Hi @khanzhu

Hope you are doing well.
I am an international student and I can understand the difficulty you are facing right now. I was in the same situation once and Cranfield has been one of the best decisions till now. We have amazing industrial links with faculty members who have direct industrial exposures and connections. You can have a look at the rankings here: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5722372 and https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5716536&p=81006760#post81006760
If you have any more questions about any specific course at Cranfield, I would be happy to help you. You can also connect with our aluminis on LinkedIn, they will be happy to provide a realtime perspective.

Good luck!!

Its primarily a postgraduate only institution so very different to places like Imperial and Manchester that have large BSc or 4 year MSci courses along with lots of taught MScs and big PhD cohorts. That gives it a very different profile and its also why it does not appear in some league tables. Its well reguarded in the UK by people who actually know about it for quite a few techincal areas, particularly aerospace, and it has some impressive on site manufacturing capabilities.

Many undergrads in the UK will not have come across it however as it was not an option for their 1st degree. Be aware that it really is in the middle of nowhere, that also gives it a very different vibe to a big city university.
Hi!

As a Home student/ UK resident and current PhD student at Cranfield I can tell you about my experience

I think a lot of undergraduate students might not have heard of Cranfield because we have no undergraduate courses, so we are not on the UCAS admissions system! Being postgraduate-only also means we do not appear in some University rankings. However, everybody I've met in my field knows Cranfield and it is highly respected. This is similar across the subjects of applied science, technology, engineering, business and management etc. in which Cranfield specialises.

If you're interested in some of the latest rankings:
In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, we are ranked in the global top 30 for Engineering Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing, top 150 for ‘Business and Management Studies’ and the top 200 for ‘Environmental Sciences’.
