Do you think there will be a second UK lockdown in October?

Any reasons as to why?
I can’t see a point, the NHS is not being stretched by the death-rate, though UK is sadly the world-leader in death-rate [https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality 69.6/100,000 population : top 20 countries] [UK just in top-3, though unclear the San Marino & BE statistics : world-list]

A new lockdown would destroy jobs, people, happiness, liberty, security, privacy etc
A carefully planned skilful set of ground-truth data appropriate mini-responses to any local increase in IFR, would be best.
We are still understanding the virus, but now the NHS has an appropriate set of tools to mitigate the rare acute cases, with cytokine-storm reducing steroids, prone oxygen, various drug cocktails, anti-stroke meds etc.

Why lockdown?
There might be a small second wave of October infections - that will inevitably increase anyway as PHE manage to ramp-up testing, inevitably will ramp-up positives.

But the death rate?
But the occupancy of critical care beds?
Likely going inexorably down, so Why Lockdown?

Maybe, maybe not.
It depends if people actually follow social distancing rules. Especially in places like school, where you're inevitably going to come into contact with someone, and so therefore there should be one way systems, or at least hand sanitizers, etc.
There was not a first one.

Will there be the same level of restrictions, no I don't think so.
No. Because I dont think the government will risk it. Not so much because they are dwindling out of money but the social unrest that goes with it. I think we are at somewhat a tipping point for a massive protest they may go dangerous and into a riot. It was a good idea to limit peoples movements and I think a lot of people did their best with it.

But theres been a lot of 'in your face' moments that have damaged the integrity of this pandemic. I dont think its as bad as they say. The media went full-fear porn which caused a mass panic-buy. I dont believe the figures are even correct anymore. We dont know how many have died and to what because of C19 or in-part C19. But now governments across the globe seem to be keen on this new power to limit peoples movements and to start/stop certain freedoms. Now they are taking away freedoms in certain parts of the UK which is just overall silly. I feel like this virus is no different from any other and may have started off deadly but as the weeks and months went by it has mutated dozens of times and become less deadly but more transmissable just like what viruses do. They want to survive within us, not kill us.

I certainly dont like any 'test & trace' programs, having to give your name out if you want to go to lets say cinema or a pub. Giving just a name out is pointless and you can always give out a fake name anyway. I dont like the idea of forcing people to wear masks. I work in retail and they are quite strict on it where I work but when I wear one I just feel like my breathing is limited. And when I think about it more it starts hurt my chest. Not that there is anything wrong with me (I think) it could just be a phantom pain brought on by panicking a little. And it also alters my perception a little because it goes over my nose. During winter I wear a snood to work which sometimes I use to cover my mouth a little if its too cold so I suppose it is in the mind. But I just dont like this sudden rule where you HAVE to wear it. Just seems odd and quite authoritarian. I think Boris is enjoying his new powers too much and needs to be careful. Like he is already smug about a massive majority just because of Brexit. But this will lead to his downfall if he keeps going and stop/starting the economy (or parts of it) I think hes doing a good job on leaving the EU but only because the government is now having fun at the EU's expense due to them having bigger problems, where as before the EU was having fun with us because Thersea May crippled and bowed to pressure and was overall weak.

It needs to end. Theres a big difference between a virus that goes round like natural and a virus that is supposedly being tracked with every new case.

Fantastic answer and very insightful, thank ypu and have a wonderful day anime
Perhaps a better question is will there be a second wave?

I think yes based on my observations in Manchester. No one is taking much notice. People don't wear masks inside, especially workers which I find bizarre. Outside, despite additional restrictions people are still visiting each other's houses en-mass. Once the cold weather hits and schools have been spreading the virus for a few weeks I think it more than likely we see a massive spike.

On the plus side though, we have testing and a "world beating" track and trace system which did not exist in March. It is more likely there will be local lockdowns rather than a country wide lockdown.

I agree. One of the reasons why I am in favour of pubs closing where there is an increase in cases is that it is one of the few restrictions that will actually happen if introduced.
