Hello, I'm planning on applying for Chester accommodation and don't know if I should pick girls only or mixed, I'm looking to make friends wondered what was the best option for this?

How do you option for girls accommodation? I didn’t know it existed. I think girls accommodation would have more comfort. Can you tell me where to find girls accommodation?

Hey my daughter applied and shes choosing it as an insurance choice. We have been to Chester twice now. Shes after a mixed sex accommodation, as she was not sure that all girls might be a bit clicky clicky for her and her friendship group is mixed. Looking online we knew 100% church college close was, but no mention that parkgate road accommodation was single sexed online until we visited it in person. So I know for sure these two are. You also have to pick 8 choices, so that said maybe some of the other halls accommodation are also single sexed and mixed sexed flats. My eldest (different uni) was in an all sexed accommodation and she loved it. There was the odd 'lazy' one which a few group messages on whats app sorted that out, but the rest all did pull their weight and all got on, even with the lazy one lol. I think you have to judge your own character really as to who you get on with currently; and when it comes to the opposite sex are you friendly?Do they chat to you and seem friendly? If so then go for mixed sex.

Shes just been online and chosen the following for said reasons:
1.Tudor place, Halls accommodation after visiting it was just gorgeous, not too far away from uni and had cinema room and a gym and study spaces
2:Grosvenor on campus Halls - was a little worried with it being a studio, but the corridors are enormous and people tend to hang out there. Little extention cable and projector will be great for movie nights there. And after visiting she absolutely loved it.
3.Sumner house - Halls type accommodation - still not too far from uni - bonus of having ensuute but cheap enough and close to the city too. Just the right amount of walking between the two. not visited but knows its very close.
4: Hollybank court - Halls accommodation Just opposite entrance of campus so its close. Price is pretty good, its ensuite and online seemed pretty decent enough
5.Towpath - Another Halls accommodation (see the theme lol, shes not one for the houses type) Ensuite. This one is near the canal and a local pub where students goes to. Its nice, although it was a bit of a walk through housing estate to get to when we visited
6:Powys court - This one is 72 students sharing 12 flats so 6 to a flat. shared bathroom facilities. Modern halls in the city, about 20 mins walk to campus.
7:Tramways - this one was walk at 25mins, but its halls, so it was further down the list.
8:John Douglas Court- its halls , right near the uni, very cheap and basic and have read kitchen is small so this one was last.
The rest were either full board or houses owned by the unis which she didnt want, so these 8 here she picked. I think she would be happy with the top 5, maybe 6. With it being insurance she knows not to be took picky.

Everyone has their own reasons for accommodation choices. whether it is single sex or prices, or how modern accomodation is, or how big a kitchen socialising area is etc.

It does exist  . Parkgate Road accommodation is single sex and also Church College Close which are both owned by the uni.I also think Cheyney road has that option too. There is an option before going onto the choosing accommodation pages whether you like quiet rooms, single sexed, no alcohol etc. you have to choose 8, so I think some of the halls have single sexed options also.

Hi @Willow18*

I lived an all girls flat at Tramways for my first year at Chester!

I think it’s a great way to help settled in and is less daunting (if being around girls is something more comfortable for you)

Then, in second year after being acquainted with students in your course, you will have made more friends and could even decide to live in a mixed house/accommodation for that year.

Speaking to either private or UOC owned accommodations, they would happily sort something out for you.

Best,
Ellie
