how do people live in university? whats their daily routine, what they go out with friends alot, do they study and work with little time for themselves?

So I’m going to outline my standard day but I am a vet student so it might be a lot busier than other students. One of my friends only has 4 hours of lectures a day.

My standard day:

Wake up 7:30. Get ready for uni. Leave house 8:30 to get to uni 8:45 to meet up with people.

Sit in friends with lectures + lunch and more lectures until 5
Go home finish work off and dinner to no later than 9. Sometimes watch a film with mates. Might do an activity on a Wednesday afternoon but otherwise not really.

I go out and do stuff with friends nearly every single weekend though and I see my friends every day.
Hey there,

My day to day life in uni is typically;

1) Wake up at 7:30 to have a coffee and wake up, get ready to leave for my lectures at 8am.

2) Take lots of notes during my lectures then head back home to get lunch, or if i'm on placement i'll complete that and any notes for the day.

3) After having lunch during a roughly hour break i'll make a list of anything I need to complete for that day during my free time out of lectures. This can be anything from doing shopping, household chores or extra reading/assignments.

4) I like to finish doing any work by 5 and then I sort my dinner, then go out with my friends in the evening if i'm able too. During the week I try to get to sleep for 10/11 so i'm not too tired for my lectures the next day, if its the weekend I might stay up a bit later

I like to treat uni like a 9-5 job during the weekday and schedule any work I need to do throughout the week to try and keep the weekends free for socials etc. if possible. This has worked pretty well for me so far, the only time i'll really work outside of these hours is if I have assignments coming up with a short deadline, or currently I do a couple extra hours here and then to revise for my upcoming exams.

I hope this helps,

Daily Routine really depends and personally, mine fluctuates all the time.

Either I'm a night owl who works in the main library from 6pm to 2am or I have a proper routine which I'm on currently.

This would be waking up around 5:30, going to the gym at 6:00, getting back home at 7:30, getting ready and eating breakfast by 8:30 and then start working on assignments at 9. Attending lectures, tutorials or working in the studio (as an architecture student) takes up my time until around 6pm. Then I'd go home and have dinner. A lot of the time, I go back to the studio to work until 10pm. I hang out with friends every Friday night, pretty much without exception. Spending time with friends are mostly studying/working together or watching a move/tv show every now and then.

Unless pressed for a deadline, I'm still able to balance my work and social life, leaving at least a day on the weekend to completely rest and not work.

Hello,

I hope you're well, I am a 3rd year student midwife so I have quite a different university experience to those on other courses. My day-to-day life is quite different, I do not have a set routine as I have random placement days throughout the week. I have two days placement and one full university day, on the other days I do my food shopping, catch up on my favourite YouTubers, go to the gym and go to my part-time job. I feel like if I have been organised through that term and studying my modules I have time for myself and to be able to go out with friends and visit family back home.

It all depends on how you utilise your time. If you are organised, set a schedule for revision and deadlines and ensure you stick to it - you are more likely to have social time to meet friends, go to societies etc and it all depends on the person. Undoubtedly, as you progress in your years throughout university sometimes it does get harder as the demands get higher but I think it is all about your organisation! In university it is very easy to get sucked in to just work but you have to remind yourself to take time for you

Kind regards,

Hey there !
This completely depends as it is different day to day depending on what my work shifts are and what my lectures look like for the week. I like to go to the gym so I always try to include this in my day but it's always busy unless I go late morning/early afternoon.
Yesterday, my day looked like...
8AM - wake up, have breakfast and get ready
9AM - go to my morning seminar
11AM - go to the gym
12:30ish - have my lunch
1:30 - shower ready for work
2:30 - catch up on any missed work I have to do and answer my emails for the day.
4 - get ready for work
4:50 - set off for work to catch the tram
That's kind of what my busiest day would look like. If I had no work and no lectures that day I'd probably let myself lie in a bit longer, have lunch and then go to the gym at around 2ish. Then I'd come back, shower and do my work after that. If I needed to do a food shop of essentials shop that day I'd usually do it after I've come back from the gym although food shops are best done in the morning because that's when they get their delivery in. I shop at Aldi and my Aldi is always really busy. I usually find the later I go, the less food there is on the shelves being restocked. You can still get your basics but for people like me who eat lots of protein, I find it harder to find the things I like (protein yoghurts, protein pancakes etc.).

If I was going on a night-out that day, I'd usually make my tea around 6PM ish and make sure it was something that properly lined my stomach. Then I'd start getting ready around half 7 (I take a fairly long time to get ready hahaha) and pre's would usually start anywhere around half 8-10 o clock. You don't usually go out until around midnight unless your ticket has an earlier last entry.

But yeah on a basic day it varies. On a day where I have no plans I'd prefer to spend the morning just chilling out, use the early afternoon for the gym and then the rest of the day for all my productive bits and bobs. That also includes seeing my friends if I want to do that that day.

Hope this helped! Let me know if you've got anymore questions.

Hi! @anonymous #1

This is such an interesting question because some days can be super busy and some can have literally nothing going on!
On the days I had nothing really going on in first year, I wasn't quite sure how to fill my time and would struggle motivating myself to get things done. Getting into a routine for your days off is key!

My day off routine:
7:30 wake up and do a Pilates workout
8:30 breakfast and watch desperate housewives haha!
9:30 get ready
10:30 get any work done that I need to
12:30 lunch
1:30 clean the flat, laundry, etc
4:30 go on a walk with my friend
6:30 both go to my flat and make dinner
8:30 do some work then watch a movie or series!

As I said, this is only on my days off but it allows me to make the most of my down time on the days I'm not working or in uni! Throw in a few shopping trips and date nights here and there and that's my life in a nutshell!

Hope this gives you an idea of what uni life can be like!

Anon,

I am in university for two and a half days a week.

Normally when I get back from uni, I put some music on, make my self a nice brew and try and do a bit of work before preparing dinner.

I try and do some more work after dinner, before going out sometimes during the week.

During the days when I am not at university, I am normally reading up in preparation for the next lecture, doing work or revising.

I also use the days when I am not at uni, to try to sort out laundry, to meet up with a friend for a coffee, or to do some exercise.

On Saturdays, I try and do a big clean, go to the library and pick up some extra groceries. I also try to do something nice like watch a movie in the evening.

I keep Sundays as a day of rest. I normally go to church, chill out, and catch up with family : )

Anon, you can definitely make time for yourself, societies etc... but I think it's just finding a routine that works for you e.g. the best day/s to go grocery shopping, to clean, to do laundry, and to study.

All the best,

Hi there,

I am a medical student so have a bit of a different timetable. I am on placement 9-5 Monday to Friday with the exception of Wednesday afternoons which are reserved for Sport participation. I personally find time for my friends in the evenings, wednesday afternoons or weekends, we often plan fun things to do together which don't have anything to do with university.
Of course when at uni studying is important, but it is also just as important to have a good time! Lots of people say uni is the best time of your life so you definitely have to enjoy it while also completing all of the needed assignments for your course!
Although uni can be busy and it can feel overwhelming, it is really important to have time to yourself as well. You shouldn't give up on hobbies you love because of uni, you will be able to fit them in around your schedule. Make sure to check in on yourself every now and again to ensure you are giving yourself the time you need to be the best version of you!

I hope this helps,

Hiya,

I'm a second-year chemistry student at Lancaster University. I know that everyone's schedule is different but a normal day is usually very busy for me.

Usually, I wake up at 7am to get ready and start heading to the uni at 8. I get there about half an hour early to catch up on emails or finish up any quick tasks that can be done. Then I'll have lectures for up to 3/4 hours in the day and maybe a workshop or two. Most weeks, I have a full-day practical scheduled from 9-6 as well. Some weeks are busier than others depending where we are in the term and at what point in the modules we are. Each evening I take a few hours off to cook dinner, shower, socialise and chill. Normally, I am able to take one full day off in a week to do whatever I want to because I try to finish everything on the other days to allow this.

I would say that overall, there is time to yourself and time for friends. However, university is like a full-time job in that you dedicate a lot of time to it but every person is different and commits however much time they want to to their degree. There is no-one to tell you what to do so you can decide what sort of schedule works for you.

You guys wake up at 7:30?

Time for a realistic one....... for reference a lot of my classes are in the afternoon or are finished now so I'm just revising for second year exams :yep:

- wake up past 12pm because I was on my phone until 2am. More recently I have been falling asleep to random people doing tiktok lives of taylor swift concerts

- get ready for the day and eat whatever I have in the fridge. Any food counts as breakfast food. Cereal may be dinner

- Log onto blackboard and do any unfinished lectures

- move onto the last 3 assignments I have to do. Research on PubMed, ncbi, springer library, or science direct until I get bored.

- a few hours later I might change to the library for a change of scenery. Every two hours I will change which floor I'm on.

- 10pm or 11pm go home. Do quizlet stuff in bed for like half an hour.

- if its a work day then I'll start at 5pm and finish close to midnight.

de-stress by doom scrolling on your pick of social media site. Tsr? Check. Reddit? Check. Tiktok definitely.

- its 3am? Time for a midnight feast if your hungry
