Depends on your school. In mine we don't use them much except when we're studying by ourselves. But I've heard the school's going digital later on. Anyhow it's handy to have a laptop so you can work on stuff easier in study time.

My sixth form has an iPad rental programme and I’ve found it really useful, so it could be another option. Having an iPad means I can annotate PDF docs and pictures and attach a Bluetooth keyboard to type. It’s nice since it’s smaller and lighter than a laptop, but also more delicate. Could be an alternative for you tho?
