Do I need a physical barcode?

For going on a run for things like the park run they say you need to have your barcode but does it have to be printed out or can you just show them it on your phone?

They only give clear printing instructions on most of their pages so that seems to be the ideal, but here it does say they allow them (although they also explain why they prefer printed): https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/200566223-My-barcode-doesn-t-work
