Is anyone having trouble getting work experience?

I'm really struggling to get work experience.

So, I have a little over two months until I start my degree in journalism. I'm really bored and I've been trying to find a part-time job, I've applied for loads and I've had interviews no luck so far.

I currently live in Oxford and have tried contacting companies in journalism like the Oxford mail to ask if I can do a week work experience. Any companies that have replied back have said unfortunately they can't do it right now.

I am spending my time volunteering for charities but most are about two hours, I like to keep busy but I just hate sitting down and not doing anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I'm feeling like I'm at a lost right now.
