Cranfield Apprenticeships

I'm aware cranfield is a postgraduate university however is it possible for an 18 year old to participate in a level 7 engineering apprenticeship at Cranfield, given they achieve elite grades, lets say A*A* in maths and further maths. If not, will the 18 year old have to do a foundation year at the university or will they not be considered at all, if they are able to somehow get into the university will they also have to do some admissions tests?

Hi @110101101

So glad to hear you are interested in doing an apprenticeship at Cranfield!

There are some formal requirements for apprenticeships, specifically in English and Maths, I’ll leave a link below for details on those:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/english-and-maths-requirements-in-apprenticeship-standards-at-level-2-and-above
https://www.cranfield.ac.uk/about/apprenticeships/apprentices-introduction

The specific requirements do change slightly with each apprenticeship advertised (so that they can fit the job description). To be considered for an apprenticeship, you should meet, or be working towards, the minimum educational requirements of the role, which will be detailed in the advert. Something always included is a GCSE (or equivalent) in English and maths. The adverts (with more details on requirements) will be posted here, so make sure to check regularly!

However, since apprenticeships are limited in number they often have several candidates who are interested, and therefore the decision can be based on your performance in the interview as well as your whole CV. Your grades are outstanding (a big congratulations on that!) but unfortunately can’t guarantee you a position. It is however a great opportunity to apply for, and your grades will be an advantage, but I know current apprentices here who recommend making sure your application doesn’t neglect other skills (things like organisational and interpersonal skills). Hopefully a helpful tip to improve your chances!

Personally, I can’t speak on the foundation year idea you mentioned as I don’t know anyone who has done something similar, but I would suggest you reach out to our apprenticeships team who can let you know your options:
Email: [email protected]
They can also advise you about the onboarding process, including any admissions tests.

There is a lot of info generally about apprenticeships at Cranfield on this link, which may be of interest for you. It also includes an FAQ download. You may be interested in hearing from current apprentices who have written a bit about their experiences on that page.

Best of luck with your application!
