studying biochemistry at cardiff

i was just wondering if a student studying biochemistry could give me some insight about the course and the university in general!

for example, how is the course in general and do you enjoy how it is structured? what are some of your pros and cons about the course? how are the facilities and staff, are you satisfied with it? how is the university in general, are you happy overall that you study there and again what are some of your pros and cons? plus how are the terms? also how is the city and the affordability! fianlly what is the diversity like

edit: i forgot to mention placement years, would anyone be able to tell me a bit about them and how hard it is to find placement?

i can't think of all the questions i wanted to ask right now but i would really appreciate any detailed responses as im considering changing my insurance choice to cardiff and i want to be 100% certain before i do so!

Hiya, I'm Fatiha! Whilst I'm not a biochem student unfortunately, I can still help answer some of the questions!

City here is really affordable! Cardiff is known as one of the more affordable cities to live in. We have a Lidl on-campus, which is always nice. I really like how Cardiff is a mix of the city and nature, we have a good couple of parks but the campus is also right next to city center in case you wanted to go for a quick shop. The Student Union is really good with supporting students with cost of living too - there's been a couple of schemes they've set up where you can basically grab free kitchen/food supplies from the SU!

As someone who is considered an ethnic minority - diversity was something I was really worried about as well. I'm not sure what type of diversity you're referring to, but I find Cardiff as really inclusive. Cardiff is actually quite diverse, you see a diverse amount of people on campus  We also have loads of multicultural and religious societies, and the Student Union likes to hold a couple of cultural events! This year we basically had a cultural festival where different cultural societies shared their food, and performed on stage as well. Also, we have a thriving LGBT community and lots of support available and societies to socialise for disabled students. So, I would say its pretty diverse ahah

In terms of your course-related questions, Cardiff Uni has a platform where you can chat to students of similar subjects  Looking at the platform, we don't have any biochem students but we do have biomedical sciences. They're both in the same school, so I'd imagine their experiences would be quite similar!

I hope that helped, let me know if I can help you any further
