I need help

I have misophonia which means that I cannot stand the sound of someone clearing their throat because it drives me absolutely insane and it gives me rage and makes me want to basically end that person. As horrible as it sounds a lot of people suffer from this. I have repeatedly told my sister and mother about this but my sister is a ***** and she does it repeatedly to annoy me. I have a hightened sense of hearing whenever she does it so I can hear it from my bedroom and its drives me absolutely crazy. I honestly don't know what to do because I love my family and I would never want to harm them but my ******* sister drives me insane. Any advice?

It just really annoys me that I have told my family repeatedly about this but my sister especially doesn't seem to respect my boundaries. They tell me to wear headphones but I can't exactly do that 24/7. I don't know how to describe it but the gutteral noise from the clearing of the throat just makes me tense and angry and I feel so disgusted. If a stranger does clears their throat once it's fine especially if it isn't a really deep gutteral sound but if it is repeatedly done it drives me insane and my only focus is making that person stop doing it in any way possible or getting away from the sound. Some people might hate the sound of a fork scraping across a plate and my annoyance it is kind of similar to that, it feels like someone is doing it non-stop.

That's kind of the problem, you can't really say someone else making a noise is crossing any boundaries.

SAME. its actually the worst especially because if i told my family about it, they'd just laugh at me and think im exaggerating. for me its the loud chewing, sniffing and throat noises. idk if youve tried this but try imitating the sounds idk why but it helps. also tell urself that its not really affecting you and that itll pass( this hasnt worked for me but apparently it does for some people.) other than that just listen to music and hope for the best 🥲

I know what you mean I have misophia too, and although I mine does not associate with clearing throat (mine is instead eating, tapping and the sound of rain drives me crazy) I can try offer some solutions. Personally, I have told my parent about it and even my sister. My dad and sister still try and eat around me and because they don’t often respect whenever they do I just leave the room without saying anything especially when they try to imitate conversations with me to indicate to them that I’m not comfortable i’m sure wearing headphones is not the solution. I don’t even do that. I only do it in public spaces such as a train like the school cafeteria is very difficult. I don’t even go there until very late. You should talk with your School your Gp to get a pass that allows you to do exams in different rooms as I’m sure people will clear their throat during exams .I’ve suffered for many years especially as my sister and I share a room so when she comes are I have to leave, when her friends in FaceTime eat I have to leave same ring with my parents. (Sorry for rambling).
