Fine art university options

Hi,

I've been looking at university options (with an aim to studying fine art, specialising in painting) and wondered if anybody had any information about Newcastle Uni, Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh College of art? In terms of freedom on the courses (I love the individual and practical side of oil painting projects but also find some level of mentoring helpful), studio space/opening hours, as well as the overall quality of the courses and teaching, and the vibe of each place (both art wise and social wise). I'm looking for somewhere with a vibrant art scene but that's also friendly and fun for non-academic aspects of uni life. I'm currently in my first year of sixth form so there's no real rush but I'm still interested (particularly from anyone currently on the courses!).

Thank you!
Have you visited any of these yet?

I’m guessing you’re hoping to study in the north of England/Scotland? In which case you might want to look into Northern School of Art, Leeds Arts University and Duncan Jordanstone in Dundee?

Lots of fine art degrees don’t have good support for painting so ask/research into the studios to check if they have dedicated painting/paintlab fine art studios away from other media (there’s horror stories out there of painting specialists sharing studio space with sculptors spraying dust everywhere)

I haven't visited any yet but am hoping to in the new year. Thank you so much for the information! I actually don't have a preference to where I study (my teachers suggested I research some universities in Scotland and Newcastle was my own choice just by coincidence, I'd also looked at places in the South like AUB). Good idea to ask about the painting studios as well - thank you!
