CDIO (Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate) is an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of engineers. It's a comprehensive approach to engineering education, differing from traditional methods in several key aspects:

Conceive: This phase emphasises understanding the big picture of engineering projects. Students learn to conceptualise new systems or products, considering the needs of customers and stakeholders. This phase focuses on creativity and broad-thinking skills.

Design: In this phase, students delve into the creation of the system, component, or process. It requires applying theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems. This stage involves critical thinking, teamwork, and the application of engineering principles.

Implement: Here, the focus shifts to the actual creation and testing of the designs. Students learn to work with materials, processes, and technologies to turn their designs into reality. It's a hands-on phase that bridges the gap between theory and practice.

Operate: This final phase involves the utilisation and operation of the designed system in its intended environment. Students learn about the lifecycle of the product, including its maintenance, environmental impact, and eventual decommissioning or recycling.
