Study abroad to a German uni

im currently holding a ppe offer from exeter, and mine is without study abroad but i think i can still apply to it.

Im thinking abt applying to LMU or TUM for the exchange and Ive been studying German for a while.

Anyone whos been there or participated the exchange or even have the thought as I do? Cuz im an international student and im planning to work in UK after graduation, if i cant find a job in UK then Germany is another option.

Hey, I´m also an international student holding a PPE offer for Exeter! I´ve got the same problem as you, I´m thinking of studying for one year in my home country or the Netherlands, so if you find anything out please tell me.

Hello DavidB667,

It is possible to do a study abroad in Germany - you can see the universities we have links for in each our subject areas here: Where can I study abroad? | Go Abroad | University of Exeter. It is worth bearing in mind that it is a competitive process, and unless you achieve a 2.1 (over 60%) in your first year you cannot be considered at all. Student with the highest grades get 'first pick' of destinations, so in order to secure your favoured destinations it is important that you have good academic attainment through your first year.

If this is something you are interested in doing I would recommend taking a look at our Study Abroad webpages: Go Abroad | Go Abroad | University of Exeter

If you have any specific questions about this please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Hi, thank you for ur reply, ive checked the official websites, and i would like to know how does the fee work? Should I pay for the destination's fee or sth else?

So for instance, as far as i know German unis dont have tuition fees, then do i still need to pay anything except the living costs for the exchange year?

I´m Spanish, from Madrid. I figured I might try to do my abroad year in Navarra or IE since I already have offers from both and some of my friends go there.

thanks for ur reply, my previous post got blocked idk why.

My question is abt fees actually. So as far as i know, German unis dont charge any tuition fees, so if i went to a German uni for exchange, do i need to pay any fees? Such as additional fees to exeter or anything else except living costs?

Haha, for a moment thought you might be Spanish as well, David is a very common name here.
Well, I applied to Exeter, Leeds, Sussex, Loughborough, and York. I´ve applied to PPE for all of them, and I´ve gotten offers from all of them except Leeds and Loughborough which haven´t replied to my application yet, but I´m sure I´ll get in (not to brag but I feel like my personal statement was great ). I´m probably going to choose between Leeds or Exeter tbh.
I didn´t apply to any reach universities because I thought I wasn´t allowed to apply if I didn´t have enough predictive grades (as it happens in Spain where things such as a personal statement or recommendation letter don´t exist and by law public unis can only take your grade into account), but I wanted LSE as well.
I´m an IB student though, so idk how to convert my grades, but I have a 36 predictive which is the minimum required for both unis, I also have a 6 predictive on all my higher levels except English with a 7.

lol, David is very common all over the world.

I also have some friends who study IB, and I think u'll get all the offers. Exeter will probably be my firm choice even if bristol also offered me a place, I'll wait and see.

Leeds and loughborough are both really good, let me know if u made the final decision.

Good question - so you would pay Exeter as opposed to your destinations fees. Fees are different to normal (15% of your annual tuition to the University of Exeter). You would then need to cover your usual living costs for the exchange year. It is worth looking at the Turing Scheme - this is a competitive scheme but those who are successful receive additional funding to support with their living costs.

The additional costs that we tend to tell our students to plan for are:

Return air fares

Visa costs

Travel and health insurance

Accommodation and subsistence

Book supplies

Mobile phone bills

Administration fees

Travel and socialising

Hope this helps!

Hi David,

Just to add to this. I'm a current University of Exeter student and participated in a year abroad during my undergraduate degree (Zoology with Study Abroad, which I spent at the University of Texas at Austin in the US). So although a very different subject and geographic location, some of the experience of studying abroad will be similar, including considering many of the costs that Melody has outlined in her previous reply.

If it's helpful at all and you've got any questions for a current student with previous study abroad experience, please don't hesitate to reply.

It's a bit of a cliche, but studying abroad was probably one of the best decisions I made whilst at university, and so if you're at all interested I'd encourage you to go for it - I feel like it had so many benefits for me, both in an academic and personal sense, and had lots of unique experiences that I couldn't imagine getting otherwise.
