Hey there, I'm starting at Aber in September and I'm planning to join lots of clubs , I was wondering do you have to sign up with them during the Fresher's fair or do you just turn up during the club's first session of the year? Also I was wondering do club training sessions and games often overlap with lectures?

Hey - You absolutely do not have to join clubs and societies during Fresher's Fair. Its only an opportunity for you to meet their committees and learn more about them! During Fresher's Week and throughout the first few weeks of term, most (if not all) clubs/societies allow you to join in for a few sessions / activities for free to see whether its the right fit for you before actually committing to them and obtaining membership. You can join them any time throughout the year.

Most activities either occur over the weekend, in the evenings, or during Wednesday afternoons to avoid any overlaps with lectures.

Hi! I have a confirmed place at Aber starting in September, and have also booked my accomodation as an international student. I have emailed the staff and asked if there was anything extra I needed to do before paying fees which they said is done during the first week before the semester. I checked the website and it says international students have to make a deposit? Further, I asked if signing up for an Aber card etc was also done during registration and they said yes. Do I wait until September(registration) to complete everything (paying fees, obtaining Abercard, booking moving in day etc) or am I missing something?

I'll be staying in Pantyceln, how likely will any food I buy be stolen from the fridge in the kitchennet? Would I be able to have a small fridge in my room.

Also do you know if the beds are single or double sized?

Really looking forward to starting.

Hi! It's very unlikely you will have issues with an item being stolen from your fridge. However, should you face any problems with your accommodation, please do bring the up with your Resident Assistant (RA) or by e-mailing the Accommodation Office who will be happy to assist.

If you require a fridge for medical reasons, please contact the Accessibility Advisor at Student Support Services - [email protected] / 01970 621761. The Residences Management Team will provide you with this equipment should your request be approved.

Or if you want to bring your own mini fridge you are allowed to bring additional furniture (including fridge/freezers) into your accommodation provided it complies fully with the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations and that you complete an additional items form, available from the Accommodation Office.

For confirmation on the bed sizes of Pantycelyn, please do reach out to the Accommodation Office at [email protected] - who can confirm the bed size of your room.

Hey there! I'm Mostafa - a current (international) student and student ambassador at Aberystwyth University!

International students are required to pay a tuition fee deposit and attend a pre-CAS interview. After completing both, students will receive their Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies Letter (CAS) which they can use to apply for their visa. Your deposit will be deducted from your tuition fee payment.

Once you have an unconditional firm offer with us you will receive an e-mail in July to activate your Aberystwyth University account which will allow you to apply for your Aber card to be ready for you once you arrive. Any arrangements for fees payments will be made once you've arrived at Aberystwyth and registered for your course.

If you have any questions, please do reach out to our Admissions team ([email protected] for Undergraduate programs and [email protected] for Postgraduate programs) or feel free to reach out in this thread or via Private Messages.

Hi there! Rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis, therefore flat mate arrangements are random. If you are joining Aberystwyth for the 2025/2026 academic year, you can apply for Student Finance next year.

I hope this answers your questions. If you still have any further concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Hello, speaking of mini fridges and the additional items form, would I be able to get it from the accommodation office and complete it before I get to Aberystwyth as I'd rather know before I bring it with me to university whether my additional items application would be accepted or not?

Many Thanks

Hey! If you already have a confirmed accommodation offer I would suggest you reach out to the accommodation office ([email protected]) who will advise you if you can do this before arriving. They will also be able to let you know the fire safety requirements the fridge must adhere to.

I hope this was helpful!
