PC Budget for Maths PhD

I'll be starting a maths PhD at Nottingham in Autumn, and I was curious to know what the PC provisioning is like. At other universities, friends of mine have been allocated funds to spend on equipment of their choosing.

The Nottingham website isn't particularly clear about what will happen: it says both

'[w]e also recommend students have a suitable laptop to work both on and off-campus'

and

'[the department will provide] [a]ccess to an appropriate personal computer'

In emails with the admissions team, this has also not been clear.

Can any current/past PhDs clarify what the situation is? Thanks!

It's hard to say, I would get in touch with your supervisor because they will be able to tell you what you actually need, and what can be provided by them.
