One failed A level

Is it possible to get into university if you fail one A Level that wasn't required by the uni?
So you take a subject you don't need but just chose to take it and then you fail. It's not exactly my case, but it's close enough.
Can you still be a uni student?

Provided you met the entry requirements with your remaining subjects, I doubt your application would immediately go into the reject pile. However, be aware that the very very competitive universities might prefer you to still have a good grade in any subjects you've dropped/ are surplus to requirements.
