Worrying about starting University?

Hi I'm writing an article based on the worries that students have about University before they get there. I thought it'd be a good idea to create a thread to see what some of the main worries are from prospective students, and also to provide a little help and advice too while I'm at it!

So any worries you have about starting University, place them here:smile:

*Also, you're more than welcome to post if you're already at University and remember specifically what you were worrying about before you started.

The more the merrier!

Thanks:smile:

Losing weight
Gaining weight
Too dry
Too damp
Too popular
Not popular enough
Being too clever
Being thick
The life-crushing loan hanging over you the whole time
- Living 11K km away from home= homesickness
- cultural shock as I've never lived in UK before
- first time living in dorm, figuring out how to get on with flatmates
- daily budgeting, my fear= spending 3/4 of my allowance (likely to happen)
- afraid of falling sick & unable to handle stress (bringing lots of vitamins with me!)
These do not outweigh my excitement to learn though, I am sure I will do fine. Good luck everyone!

Why did you continue with it if it's such a scam?

I was worried about not making any friends and being a loner!
- My shyness making it difficult to bond with people/make friends.
- The work being too overwhelming (I've taken two years out between college & uni, so I think it'll take some adjusting to get back into the swing of it).
- Homesickness.

I'm already at uni and now realise all my worries were futile.
But I was worried about making friends, gaining weight, flat mates not liking me, finding lectures hard, being poor and unable to afford to go out and socialise

So would you say everything settled into place when you started uni or it took a few months?

I'll admit that first day I was terrified, but I just threw myself into getting involved with events and meeting people and putting myself out there. It helps that my flat mates are lovely. And I am poor, but working on it aha. Yes I'd say that after a week or so it was all fine and I realised I had been silly
