Russell group vs non Russell group uni

Are degrees "easier" to get from a non russell group uni compared to a russell group one?
Depends on the university.

I personally am unaware of these particular universities, though then again, I was unaware of the existance of Birmingham for much of my life but I here they are doing good.... not really, these days. But whether their degrees are "easy" or not really doesn't matter all that much at the end of the day. The grade you receive is simply a measure of "how well you were able to pass a highly specialised test that your teachers gave you". What does matter is your work experience, mindset, skillset and portfolio, but if you want to ensure that the degrees offered by this university is not going to be an "easy" one, then you honestly need to search up the university on a university ranking site. Also, attend opening days and also look at student reviews of the university course you are applying for at the university you wish to study.

Just because one institution can publish lots of high research papers every year does not mean their teaching is better or more difficult. Although there are always exceptions to this rule.

If you go to more elite Universities you will more likely have to complete more assignments, attend more seminars/discussion groups and the work may be more challenging in general. Although the same basic concepts of subject knowledge will be similar in a student who has completed a similar degree at a Russel group uni vs non-Russell group.

e.g. someone who has done a chemistry degree at a 'lower ranked' Uni vs a Russell uni will have about the same ability of understanding of the basic concepts but also other areas of in depth knowledge of the subject depending on what modules they have completed.

Hey @britishvip

Your question is very circumstantial, universities will all have a different level of learning. I think it falls under a similar thought process that higher ranked universities are superior, which must mean they're harder to get degrees from, etc.

I wouldn't let it truly sway your decision on which university you'd go to, if you are currently looking for one
