Inspired by a recent thread I thought I would do my own.
I’ve been in psych hospitals on and off since 18 and despite being told I would fail my degree (and my uni trying to kick me out) I am now doing a PhD in psychiatry/psychology in mental health.
Amazing!! I've had a sort of similar experience in suffering badly with my mental health (though not to the point of hospitalisation) but now finding myself doing a Masters in my favourite subject, a place I never thought I'd get to

Which area are you researching for your PhD?
That's awesome!
I am studying schizophrenia - I think a lot of PhDs do subjects they are passionate about and have experience with (not just psychology!)

Well done. I am sure you will have great empathy. Are you patient facing at all?
nope just research in psychiatry/psychology as opposed to a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist who have patient interaction
Well if you can somehow unlock the mystery that is schizophrenia or even just a bit that would be fantastic.
As a student nurse many years ago, I did a placement in a psychiatric hospital. It was the scariest 12 weeks ever. Then as an adult, I suffered severe depression and nearly got sectioned. It was terrifying.

1.What mental illness were you diagnosed with? 2.Are you taking medication for it if so which ones? 3.How did/do you feel after your medication if you take take/took medication? 4.What does the day look like in a psychiatric hospital? (Was it scary for you?)
So did you do a bsc in psychology? also did you do a masters? I'm doing a bsc in neuroscience and plan to go into psychiatry research so I'm so glad you're doing this thread

What symptoms of schizophrenia did you experience? What sort of things do you see or hear? Do you still experience psychosis while being medicated? At what age did you start experiencing schizophrenia?
