I'm nearly 19 and I have my braces back on. I had Invisalign initially and everything seemed too good to be true on paper, which in reality it was, my teeth didn't move. I wouldn't recommend them. I now have the American Ortho ceramic Radiance brackets on, they are great - can't see them at all if I'm honest. I'm not embarrassed anyway, it's 18-24 months of wear for hopefully a lifetime of nice teeth.

Approx cost for the mental braces is £2000, ceramics £3500, Invisalign £4000+, linguals £8000+. I'd probably go for the ceramics if you can afford them. They're not really any slower at moving the teeth if you have the brackets with the metal slots and/or use a metal wire instead of the teflon coated white wire.

 Damn. They are expensive! The problem is i don't have the money for them atm and it will take me a long time to save up because i don't have a job and im at uni, so i'll have to get my parent to pay for them and then pay them back once i've saved up enough. I just hope they can help me out and arn't put off by the price.
I don't really want the train track ones, but if i need them, then it'll be worth the 2 years or so, of embarrasment. Atleast i'll have nice teeth at the end. :h:

I think you'd be fine! I'm 18 and by the time I have my braces taken off, I'll have had them on for 18 months. These track ones are coming off in July, then I'll have to switch to a retainer. I thought I was pretty late - loads of my friends had them when they were 13/14, and until I opted to have an extra operation, it looked liked I'd be keeping them on until I was 19. I really wanted these gone by the time I went to university, but now that I've had them on for so long, I don't think I'd mind. Okay for the first few months you feel like your mouth is twice its actual size and you think everybody is noticing, but you do get used to it, and I don't think people notice half as much as you believe when you've got them. And I don't think it's particularly uncommon at 20. I know at least a dozen people age 19-20ish who have them. I know exactly how uncomfortable you can feel if your teeth aren't quite right, and I honestly think it will be worth the money and a year of your life to get them sorted.

I got invisalign for less than 2k for full treatment. i'm on my 4th month and I can tell the difference!! check qclinic in london
OP, the best thing to do is make an appointment with your dentist, get them to refer you to their favourite ortho (preferably one who specialises in adult orthodontics) and have a chat with them.

From what you've said it doesn't sound like your teeth are bad at all and I don't imagine they'll take as long as you think they will.

I got Damon braces about...3 months ago, my teeth were awful, so overcrowded. Now they are almost completely straight. I'll be getting the top set off at my next appointment (all being well), the bottom (which were so bad I cringe at photos) will take another 6 months. 9 months for a beautiful smile is definitely worth being self-conscious when your friends are throwing a camera about for a while.

Anyway, only your orthodontist can say what would be best for you but in the meantime consider how important cost, length of the process and looks are to you, even list them 1-3 (with 1 being the most important). Different types of braces do different things, work at different speeds, look different etc.

EDIT - I forgot to say I'm 20, I was 20 when I got braces, I'll be 20 when I get them off.

This is very misleading, don't dissuade people from invisalign just because it didn't work on you. Invisalign is a not to be seen as a product but more a method, thus its more dependant on your orthodontist. I would recommend invisalign of traditional braces any day of the week, with a good provider.

Well I was massively missold Invisalign, therefore it's true I wouldn't recommend it to others following my experience. I think a lot of orthodontists are now realising it's not all it's cracked up to be, certainly my current orthodontist has expressed he's not fond. You don't even have to be a qualified orthodontist to be an Invisalign provider anyway, which again makes me wonder about the success rate.

Invisalign just doesn't work for every case, sometimes you have to go for traditional braces over Invisalign to get the right results. It's not for everyone, in my opinion it's good for minor cases where really only the front 6 teeth need moving. I took my Invisalign trays and clincheck etc to my current orthodontist who looked at me and said there was no way on this earth it would have been successful. He said if I'd gone to him initially looking at getting Invisalign he would have said no.

I'm not slating Invisalign as a company, they kept to their end of the bargain in my case and are obviously very technically advanced in what they do. I just think the poor judgement of the orthodontist in question and their failure to make appropriate treatment recommendations was what ruined it for me. So atleast we can agree it very much depends on who you see.
If your teeth have just moved then it should only take under a year to move them back. If you have gaps it will take up to 2+ years.
