A 16 year old could well be in the same school year and the same class as a 15 year old. If they were, then we can presume that they'd be fairly similarly mature - at an educational and intellectual level, and considering the negligible age difference, probably physically similar too. A 25 year old, on the other hand, is an adult and there are large, obvious differences between the maturity of a 25 year old and a 15 year old.

Personally I think the law should at least acknowledge the difference between a 16 y/o and 15 y/o having sex and a 25+ y/o and a 15 y/o having sex.

Of course (it's possible that) there will be maturity differences between a 25 year old and a 16 year old. But what reason is there to suggest that there should be any legal difference between a 15 year old having sex with either of these people?

Surely the important thing is not that "A 25 year old might manipulate the 15 year old", but whether or not the 25 year old actually did manipulate the 15 year old?
What if the 16 year old manipulates the 15 year old? Shouldn't that be illegal?

Tbh I don't even see why a 16 year old and a 15 year old having sex should be illegal. It seems somewhat unfair on the 16 year old. As I said, they could easily be classmates and therefore have pretty much equal knowledge about what sex means and the responsibility involved with it.

I don't see why two people must have equal knowledge about what sex means and the responsibility involved with it, before they should be allowed to have sex.

Surely both people must have enough knowledge, rather than equal knowledge?

What kind of maturity is required to experience a natural bodily function in your view?

More than is expressed by the majority of under-21 year olds.

That absolutely irrelevant to the question! What does that have anything to do with taking advantage? The 16 year old is still JUST as mature, so JUST as easily taken advantage of. The age of the other person is irrelevant.

And saying the 15 year might have more in common with a 16 year old is IRRELEVANT also. What does that have to do with taking advantage?

Then surely a 25 year old from that logic would have MORE knowledge, and be in a even BETTER position to bed the 16 year old than the 15 year old.

If kids start learning about contraception and sex by the ages of 7/8 then that wouldn't be a problem.

I think 13 is a more appropriate age of consent, more in line with reality.

No points for evading the question. What kind of maturity is required to experience a natural bodily function in your view?
To those who say that lowering the Age of consent would be a gift for paedophiles: Age of Consent in 13 in Japan... and they're not exactly known for being overrun with pedophiles.
Well, if one can put their porn to one side anyway.

If there's grass on the field.....play ball lol
I think 18, it doesn't make sense that you could practically have a baby before you're allowed to get drunk and get a license.

I think that sex should be legal between any two people who knowingly consent to the act. I suppose 13 is usually the minimum age at which people can be aware of sex and its consequences. There should still be laws to prevent manipulation of people, however old they are.

Can you not answer a simple question? I swear some people are retarded.
16 is sensible but I think we should have a much more common sense policy for statutory rape prosecutions, there should be a public interest.

hmmm everybody seems to agree on 16...

wooo 13 in spain!!!
I think 16 is perfectly acceptable, although I see arguments for it being raised to 18.
However i do think sex education should be taught much better in all schools from an earlier age & more places should offer c-card schemes like norfolk with a free condom distribution scheme. I think if you're going to argue that you're preventing pregnancy by raising an age of consent, it wouldn't work but that's my opinion
If there is grass round the wicket, lets play cricket
The age it is.
