Well have u ever stood up in court before you have to say

" I, (Insert full name), do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.

I think you're getting confused with the Oath that they force MPs to take, darling...
Thanks goodness I thought I was the only one.

Not at all - we number 25% of the population already!
25% lmao hang on whilst i pick myself off the floor...heres an article from the guardian that was the day before the royal wedding http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/apr/24/monarchy-still-relevant-say-britons

The reason i chose this one was because its a republican newspaper, just grow out of it already were not a republican country and we wont ever be. Especially with all of the mayhem thats going on in the world now many of europes most stables countries are monarchies. Just because you dont like priviledged rich people i think you need to get off your high horse and accept that people arent equal.
Speaking for myself, I am a monarchist, atheist liberal.

Good Lord...

You're completely right, of course- it isn't 25%:

"There is hope, though, for republicans in the fact that the most enthusiastic supporters of the monarchy are pensioners, and young people are less keen. Among 19-24s, 37% think Britain would be better off without the monarchy, 10 points higher than the average."

You were arguing the pro-monarchy side long before that article was published!
Indeed, but people's political views tend to be volatile when younger, be it from left or right. I wouldn't be too concerned about the monarchy's future.

My prediction: Support will go up to at least 35% overall during the build up to the Jubilee. We'll take the majority when King "I'm the reason the NHS spends £8m on homeopathy" Chuck and Queen Cruella come in and give us all a culture shock.
We'll see Joe, maybe I'll bookmark this post for review next year

We will see indeed!

I do think that Chuck & Cruella will be the best recruiting agents we've ever had.

Here is where I draw the line in my support for the monarchy. I like the queen. I think she's value for money and frankly prince philip is hilarious. Charles though? That's where the scientist in me starts to vomit.

Public figures are allowed to be privately insane. That's fine. Charles has very public insanity and spends a lot of time and energy promoting causes that turn him into a laughing stock. That the NHS spends so much on treatments that have either not been proven to work or been proven not to work is an absolute travesty. Do I want this man as the head of state? No.

That's the absurdity of the heredity principal, right there! There's no reason why we couldn't elect Elizabeth Windsor, not elect Chuck, then elect 'Wills' again. We should be able to choose who amongst that family, or who from outside that family is our representative as HoS.

I'm tired of going round in circles on this issue again, but the flaw in your argument is assuming that someone like Elizabeth Windsor and William Windsor would in any way be able to compete with a candidate fronting an efficient and ruthless party machine.

So... don't allow ruthless party machines...
