It's so tragic, and yet so true...
Sorry to sidetrack the thread, but does anyone know anything about Tonbridge school? My family will be moving to the UK and my brother will attend it but the whole multi-tier school system is a bit odd. Is it considered academically strong etc.?

Not to my taste, but it's certainly a reasonably good school: http://www.tonbridge-school.co.uk/
Good school.

Not to my taste

Any particular reason? Its more the negatives Im interested in... (my parents arent that familiar with the British school system so Im digging around a bit ..)

No reason really, just that I prefered other schools when I went to look around.
Ah ok, I thought that there was something particularly negative which struck you.

I go to a school (Shrewsbury) which is in the Rugby Group, I believe it's pretty similar. I've no idea how it effects my schooling, other than the fact that heads of faculties go off for a meeting once every few terms so I get a few extra free periods on those days... we were also fined for that 'price-fixing' scandal, but it was a pretty pitiful amount tbh in context of the fees themselves, as shown above.

^A lot of my friends' brothers go there... I haven't heard anything awful about it. It's quite sporty from what I hear.

Yeah, very good rowing (best in the country at the School's Head this year) and pretty sharp at football, cricket and fives. Heninacoop, whereabouts are you?

I go to one of them! But I'd prefer to not say which!....

Good old Thomas Tallis comprehensive was good enough for me. Gave me an experience of the real world and certainly makes me feel that I deserved my grades.

That's great.. Maybe if you'd gone somewhere better you might realise that the 'real world' is not limited to comprehensive schools, nor is it limited to school time. I can't believe the number of idiots on this forum who feel the need to say what you've just said.

Spot the chip on the shoulder.
Tonbridge is quite good academically. I was going to apply there for sixth form, but didn't like it at all visiting it. Prepare to be surrounded by rich foreigners who usually only socialise with fellow countrymen and hardly speak any English outside class.
I'm sorry I just find self-righteous inverse snobbery rather hypocritical and it pisses me off. Can't help it.

If you're directing that at me, then I was directing it at zoea85, not at you.

Ah, good. You being a Shrewsbury man, I would expect nothing less of you.
