When do I have to let my university know I'm dropping out?

Hi there,

I recently decided to switch from my current course at York University to the London School of Economics. When do I have to let my university know that I have accepted an unconditional elsewhere? I thought this would simply be ad hoc, so long as it was before the beginning of the new term.

If you know you wont be returning for 2014 then you should go and see your personal tutor asap. He/she will tell you the formal procedure for 'resigning'. The sooner you do this, the better. Leaving it until October is 'bad manners' and could make the difference in someone else being offered a course option etc in your place.
