when do I hand in notice

if I get a new job which requires DBS checks and so on, do I wait until all my checks have cleared (have done DBS before so I know I'll pass) to hand in my notice, as that will mean its quite a long time until I can start since I have to give 4 weeks notice or should I be giving notice sooner?

REad the contract of your current job and see what it says. My contract says "30 days notice" but my firend has one which says "6 weeks notice" so it all depends. You must follow what you signed up to :yep:

Check your contract, it differs. I never signed any contract when I started my job, my partner says you automatically enter into one after so long - does anyone know if this is true?

If you have worked for your employer for one month or more, the legal minimum amount of notice you must give is one week.

erm, I know how long my notice period is, it's 4 weeks like I said in my post

my question is do I hand my notice in while my new job offer is still conditional, or do I wait until I have confirmed employment absolutely and have a start date?
Well is there any reason why you wouldnt pass your CBS?...
I would hand it in now if I knew it was going to be clear
