SNP thugs try to throw 83 year old MP out of his seat in the Commons

What a laugh it is, to have the Scottish National Party in parliament in large numbers. Already they tried to bully an 83 year old MP, Dennis Skinner, out of the seat he has sat in since the early 1980s (and he has been on the "Rebels bench" since 1970, even when there is a Labour government)

Not only that, but when Sir Gerald Kaufman, father of the house came to sit down on the edge of the bench at the end closest to the speaker, the next SNP MP refused to move up and make room, Dennis Skinner said, "You're not going to have a fight with two 83 year old men, are you?" to which the SNP **** replied, "You're not 83!". He is, and Sir Gerald is 84!

These new SNP MPs, basically thugs in ill-fitting suits, are going to try to make everyone's life a misery in the House. Mhairi whats-her-face, the 20 year old SNP MP, deliberately decided to sit directly behind the Labour frontbench to "photobomb" (she's very mature, I can see) them even though by convention and courtesy that is where opposition party supporters sit. It makes me feel sick.

Coming to the House of Commons with the intention of bringing new policies is one thing, but going in on day one with a snide attitude and zero respect for the accumulated customs and traditions, harrassing elderly members, suggests a massive ego. I have no doubt we will see more of this in the coming years

Guardian parliamentary correspondent yesterday said that Skinner had more than held his own and the SNP after some jockeying for position, gave up.

One strange thing that's going to happen is that after we get more exposure to the thuggish and nationalist/xenophobe/anti-English SNP, we will probably all start hankering after the long lost LibDems. :teehee:

They gave up for the day, they're going to go in each day with a prayer card to try to seize it back. To make an 83 year old man have to battle for the seat he has had for decades is revolting.

People with a preachy holier-than-thou attitude, the sort who believe they are god's gift to [insert your chosen field here], often behave in this way.

Well, let's see. I can imagine Skinner (given the sort of man he is) standing there looking at them until he gets a seat, to rousing cheers from the house no doubt. He's surprisingly popular on all sides, in an odd sort of way, but his age will also be a factor.

I think the SNP would be very foolish to pick this particular fight, but if they do, it will set up the way they intend to act in the House going forwards. Presumably they intend to be mainly disruptive and confrontational.
Oh quit your whining.

If anyone's being 'anti' anything, it's you being anti-Scottish.

We're allowed our own voice too.

God forbid that England doesn't get to control everything that happens to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Just get over it.

Scotland had just as much a voice in Westminster before this election as it does now. It had 59 MPs and still has 59 MPs. Unfortunately, this lot only represent 50% of the Scottish electorate.

So by your definition, being "pro-Scottish" is bullying an 83 year old out of his seat?
Didnt this innocent 83 year old man take over the seat by elbowing out the previous occupant, David Owen?

According to history, it was a close-run thing - apparently they had quite a dogfight over it.

Owen was a fairly creepy character though, so don't shed too many tears on his behalf.

So under the new arrangements, Scotland = SNP and SNP = Scotland?

If I was a Scot, I would actually be pretty worried by this takeover of nationalist extremists and totalitarians.
These National Socialist scum don't represent all of Scotland like they act they do.

I wont be shedding any tears over Skinner either who voted for the infamous 40% rule
If anything the house of commons could use a shakeup from stuffy old traditions
Are they school children??

I'm struggling to understand the issue here. Why are they fighting over a seat? :s-smilie:

Sometimes they are a nice thing. The thing about Dennis Skinner is that even though he's quite annoying some of the time, he's also been there a heck of a long time and as his voters keep sending him back time and again and on an individual level, he's shown great integrity and commitment to his cause, it seems hostile to try to muscle him out of the way at his age.

On the whole though, I tend to agree, particularly some of the stuff that goes on in parliament seems to be just pretending to be about tradition and is actually about ensuring that the secret state, the civil service and the nexus between big corporate tax-dodging funders of the Tory Party and er, cough, the Tory Party, get their way.
Anyone who believes this constitutes being a thug has never had a night out in Glasgow city centre.
