Why is prestige not important when choosing medical schools?

Which is the most prestigious?

It's not that some medical schools aren't more 'prestigious' than others, it's that in the end of the day if you qualify as a doctor you'll be able to become one and that even less prestigious universities tend to have very reputable medical schools (medicine itself being a less commonly offered course). On the other hand if you were doing a less vocational degree you might need to rely more on the prestige of your university to make you stand out to future employer's.

If you want to go for the best medical schools then by all means do so - but I imagine that a lot of medics don't see the point given how hard it can be to get into medicine at all.

Surely imperial is a superior medical school to barts!

They all have to get their pupils to a standard determined by the GMC.
There isn't an oversupply of med graduates and around 98% iirc of graduates gain employment.
Applications for FY1 posts after graduation are blind so they won't know what University you attended.

Because wherever you go a doctor is a doctor. Full stop. I've met loads of doctors from abroad and from the UK on placement and no one really cares where you went
