There is the exception to cases such as that; however, still public transport still runs in cities at late hours.

There actually is. Right now, commuting makes most sense as it's quicker, easier, about as expensive as driving and really reliable.

Moving closer to work means that great train link has gone. It's then slower, harder, and pricier than driving in. Work has free parking on site

True, but with the emissions from my car a few insects are the least of the problems!
