can coldsores be passed when not active?

If I was to kiss a girl that gets coldsores, but she did not have one at the time, could I catch the virus?

And also, if she was to perform oral sex on me without an active coldsore, could I still catch genital herpes?

No. It is only contagious when they have one. My boyfriend gets them and I'm fine. Just don't kiss each other when she has one.

There is a very small chance of her passing it on to you when she has no symptoms through asymptomatic viral shedding. However, this is much less likely with HSV1, which causes cold sores. So it is very, very unlikely but not impossible.
